How Typeahead Works

The Typeahead feature, also known as autocomplete, provides suggestions to the user as they type.

Typeahead anticipates the word(s) a user is most likely intending to type to generate suggestions. The top matching results are displayed for the user to click and initiate a search.

For instance, when a user types "brian ca" in Typeahead, it may suggest provider and location names (if matches exist in the care inventory) and potentially 'brain' related options to account for misspellings.

Depending on your implementation, the following Typeahead categories can be configured for use: Provider Name, Provider Specialty, Provider NPI, Location Name, Location Specialty, Service, CPT Code, and Care Plan.

If a user clicks on a typeahead option, the system executes the search using the search term and category selected. Alternatively, if a user searches without selecting from the typeahead, the system will run a free text search. For more information about this, see the dedicated How Searching for Care Works article.
