1. Template Management
- Downloading templates: You can export a full clinical keyword template as a CSV for offline review, useful when a reviewer does not have access to Kyruus Connect.
- Uploading templates: You can now import a CSV to create a brand new template or update an existing one. Start from one of our standard library templates, since imported keywords must match our clinical keyword library exactly or the import will error out.
- Keyword promotion at the template level: You can now promote a keyword for an entire template, not just individual providers. Use this when you want one specialty area to consistently outrank another for a shared keyword, for example promoting skin tag for family medicine over dermatology.
- Clinical interest: This new field displays selected keywords directly on the provider profile. It works best for bulk applications to a defined group of providers rather than a whole template, since interests are provider specific.
- Subscribing providers to templates: New feature: once a provider subscribes to a template, future template edits carry over automatically. A provider can only subscribe to one template at a time, and subscribed providers cannot have their keywords edited individually. We recommend subscribing to the more general specialty template when a provider has multiple templates, for example family medicine over a sub-specialty template.
2. Provider-Level Edits
- Bulk edits: A new checkbox option lets you select multiple keywords at once and set them to searchable, promoted, or clinical interest in a single action.
- Import and export: You can now export a provider's clinical keywords, make changes offline, and import the file back in, in addition to the existing export-only option.
- Enabled versus searchable: Turning a keyword off removes it entirely. Enabling a keyword automatically makes it searchable, but you can still toggle searchability off independently while keeping the keyword enabled for future use.
- Clinical interest guidance: We recommend five or fewer clinical interest keywords per provider so the profile stays clear for patients. Clinical interest does not affect search ranking on its own. Also promote the keyword if you want it to affect ranking.
3. Clinical Maintenance
- Specialty accuracy: Always confirm a provider's specialty label reflects how they actually practice, not how they are credentialed. Remember to review and update if necessary the Accepting New Patients or Age Groups Seen fields, as these will not automatically update when a specialty is changed.
- Applying a new template after a specialty change: Use the provider bulk edit tool's replace all function to swap in the correct keyword template once a provider's specialty is updated.
- Clinical Configuration Dashboard: Found under Kyruus Connect Analytics, this dashboard flags providers missing a specialty and providers missing clinical keywords. Keyword coverage is filtered to schedulable specialties only, since inpatient-only specialties such as critical care or emergency medicine are intentionally excluded.
- Removing keywords entirely: There is no direct delete option on a provider profile. To fully clear a provider's keywords, apply a blank template through the replace all function, then layer in the correct new template.
4. Question and Answer Highlights
- Requesting new keywords or specialties: Submit a support ticket. Typical turnaround is about two weeks, often faster for small requests. New specialties must fit the NUCC taxonomy or have an existing fellowship, and new keywords must be conditions, symptoms, treatments, or procedures. We generally do not add generic medications, though we do make exceptions for high-demand terms.
- Updated clinical terminology: When a clinical term is renamed, we update our library and keep the original term as a synonym so patients searching with familiar language can still find the right care.
- Primary care templates: When listing primary care as a specialty, also list the specific practicing area, such as family medicine or internal medicine, so the correct template and age group can be determined.
- Governance and review cadence: We recommend reviewing templates at least once a year, or every two years at minimum, and updating keywords whenever new treatments or procedures come into use.
- Who typically owns this work: Ownership varies by client. It is commonly marketing, a practice manager for a specialty area, or handled through an internal IT ticket process.
5. Key Takeaways
- Templates: Start new or uploaded templates from the standard library so clinical keywords match the library exactly.
- Promotion: Promote keywords at the template level to route by specialty, and reserve provider-level promotion for individual exceptions.
- Clinical interests: Five or fewer per provider keeps profiles easy for patients to read.
- Subscriptions: Subscribe providers only to general specialty templates, not highly specialized ones, to preserve edit flexibility.
- Specialty accuracy: Validate that a provider's specialty reflects how they actually practice, not just how they are credentialed.
- Monitoring: Use the Clinical Configuration Dashboard regularly to catch providers missing a specialty or clinical keywords.
